Earns recognition for the fourth consecutive year
WellSpan has been named among the Top 25 Most Connected Healthcare Facilities by Health Imaging and IT magazine for the fourth consecutive year.
“Next year, we’ll be going for ‘one for the thumb,’” said William “Buddy” Gillespie, chief technology officer for WellSpan, referring to the Pittsburgh Steelers slogan when they were seeking their fifth Super Bowl ring.
“It’s satisfying to earn this type of recognition,” added Gillespie. “But, it’s more satisfying knowing that we have been able to maintain a high-level of performance for four years.”
Editors of Health Imaging and IT wrote, “The Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities are intelligent and knowledge-enabled healthcare enterprises.
“While good connections in business relations can bring profits—effective IT-enabled connections across a multi-site healthcare organization allow significant reductions and efficiencies in operating and staff costs and better care for patients via expanded regional reach for many facilities.”
The editors also added that extensive connectivity can reduce patient wait times, overall length of stay, the need for repeat exams and improved customer satisfaction.
“WellSpan has a tremendous team that stretches across the organization,” stressed Gillespie. “The synergy and team spirit are keys to our performance.
“Everyone deserves credit for the work that has led to improving care for the patients. This award is just one of the many reasons we have to be proud of the work we’ve done.”
WellSpan performs approximately 540,000 imaging procedures a year, and nearly all of the nearly 1,000 physicians in the community can access those clinical images remotely.
Only five healthcare facilities on the Top 25 Most Connected list perform more imaging studies each year than WellSpan.
“Our volumes are increasing six to 10 percent a year,” said Gillespie. “And, our points of care that need access to those images continue to increase. It’s important for us to continue to meet the growing demands of the health system.”
In concluding their article on the Top 25 Most Connected Healthcare Facilities, the editors of Health Imaging and IT wrote, “Connections are making the difference in healthcare today, as well as differentiating top performers from the rest.”
WellSpan is one of only five organizations that have made the Top 25 list four years or more. It’s also one of three Pennsylvania organizations to make this year’s list. Penn State University/Hershey Medical Center and Main Line Health in Bryn Mawr are the other two.
